Giga Nas

After evaluating several solutions, I show that I chose for my home NAS.
The selection criteria were essentially the ease of use, do not have a proprietary technology and have a low cost, while technically had to meet the following characteristics: have room for at least two discs, able to operate in raid 1 (mirror), not having a configuration tool connected to an operating system but to be a browser.
Since I had two 160GB drives, I tried a product that was sold without disks.
I have discarded the products of brands "noble", as a matter of cost, did not want to spend more than a hundred dollars, while wondering what the various D-Link, Netgear, iomega had much higher prices.

I finally directed to an honest GIGA NAS Communications of the MRT, which offered all the technical and practical I was looking for!

All configuration is via a browser interface, when configured and connected to the network can be used from any Windows PC, Mac or Linux.
The configuration was very trivial and lasted a few minutes, but the performances are good.
In addition it has a plus nos: has the ability to add programs such as the torrent, in order to take full advantage of its operation.
(Actually, given the limited processing power, should not download more than him 'two or three rows :) )

    Hello!
I've bought on ebay from a seller in Germany.
The product is excellent and is extremely easy to use, whether it is accessed via a PC Linux and Windows! Now I try the URL of the vendor and place it there!

  4. admin October 27, 2008 11:51 am

    Found!
    here's the url: http://shop.ebay.it/merchant/hardware-tech
I hope you find it useful!

... .. But what you can do in sequential read / write??

    Hello,
    wired network and moving a 700MB movie I got to see a 40-45 Mbit / s
I do not know whether it is "much" or "little" for me is more 'than enough.
systems with higher prices certainly provide better performance ...
But then I'm always connected via wifi and then the bottleneck is the network itself :)

    As consumers?

  9. admin October 28, 2008 9:46 am

That depends on whether a full load I get to thirty watts, at rest, with the disc will spin off I'd say under 10 watts ... I give measures of thumb because I have a tool to measure the consumption, but the power supply more than 40 watts does not deliver, so ...

  11. admin May 8, 2009 11:35 am

    My never gave any problems.
It seems to me strange that yours did not work, a possible fault?
Have you tried to request the replacement?
    What problems are you having?

On my arrivatomi today, I can only write files smaller than 65,536 bytes.
If the files are more 'long, hangs for several seconds and then copy them at all or only in part. I tried to format the drive as fat32, ext2, ext3 not solve anything

Hello two questions as you connect in ssh? risks to connect via network to the 'xbox?
    hello

  15. admin October 9, 2009 10:14 am

    Hello,
you connect via telnet, ssh does not! you need to enable this option via the web console.
I connected to my PC nos windows and linux ... I do not know how to console and help!
However, this NAS supports the most common connection standard, so I do not expect big problems.

CIA ancge I have this product, until now I used it in raids or, now I bought two discs from a therapeutic and I set 1 raid, but I get this error Disk Occur Wrong, the discs seem to work correctly, I know it can be anything on it you know?

    Hello

  17. Fernando Boccia November 8, 2009 1:02 pm

Hi guys I have to say that now after two years of using the product I think I perfectly satisfied! I recommended it to many colleagues (I am a technical ICT state) and they too are happy with the latest firmware is great and those little problems that were successfully resolved at the beginning are you!
I do not recommend to put two discs into the facade ammen that a series of opening for air circulation! A colleague of mine did in a hundred little holes on the front! With regard to their capacity in TB to give it up to 1TB but I have 1.5 TB in and sees them well!
To speed it takes a gig network speeds are the standard wisdom of any equipment to 100! As if both the PC that the router (or switch) is a great gig to be significant points of transfer touching! I got on ebay auction to 81 euros more '9 shipping and I think me perfectly satisfied even recommend it to everyone!
    Greetings FB

    Hello Hector,
I think the problem with the fact that this NAS supports up to 1TB max.
In your configuration will 2TB ...

  19. admin November 9, 2009 4:20 pm

    Hello Fernando,
Can you tell me where you are getting the latest firmware?

  20. Andrea November 20, 2009 11:12 pm

Hello everyone, I just bought from ebay and how the NAS for up saying "supports 1 TB disk drives" and then putting in raid 1, 2 1 TB drives should have a 1 tb raid and see properly. someone with the new firmware I confirm that I am raid on 2 drives 1 TB? I ordered it today and eventualemnte I cancel the order if their information was incorrect.

For the admin asking the new firmware, it's on here:

    @ Andrea
Vai a comfortable therapeutic holds it very well! :-)

Oh the link (firmware) is correct but it is better to download it from http://www.mrt-communication.com/firmware/35HD-NAS-E/G5S604100026700.tar.gz since it is their stuff! For more than a TB disks as I said mine has 1.5 TB and it works great to raid with two discs of 1.5 or two I do not know but I think I'm the same (usually depends on the firmware, if someone hangs a forum of nos knows that there are different versions of firmware that are for example the HD spin down, and other goodies!) to reiterate that the network speed is highly dependent on full power!
If one uses intensively the NAS can 'also have a network gig but will never touch high peaks (up to 10 Mb! Not a few cm ²!) I have just one switch in the dlink 1005D with computers and connected to giganas 1000 and the other to 100 (an AP, with a view of a PC and the modem-router with 10Mb tiscali), everything goes great and obvious that if I try the performance that I work on my network (wired backbones and Giga fiber between a switch and the other) we are just two different worlds but also two other costs!
To house the NAS in question is the best thing to a point of view of cost / performance if it wanted to increase both the speed and reliability and the types of servers available (ie aggiugnere for example a webserver!) Will need to address QNAP (models 209-219-239) but have a completely different cost (if taken while if purchased at auction are prohibitive!) Obviously we are talking about real miniature PC with plenty of RAM and processor digran long above that is within our ARMI Giganas (I paid around 100 euros including expenses !!!). So moral of the story if you're lucky and managed to grab a QNAP for a price around $ 200 then the reasoning mind Giganas granlunga remains the best price / performance considered that the firmware is updated frequently enough and that since he was born (it seemed closed and no possibility of improvement) have the added software and enhanced the 'SO!

  23. Fernando Bowl December 6, 2009 3:13 am

Here are the ebay link for the entry level of the TS 110 Qnap NAS-level home as you can see the entry level is much more 'high-supplied and performance of our good GigaNas (GN is also more than a few months' old ! at least as a distribution both have three years! qnap the equivalent CPU had another more and more 'powerful but' the GN)

While this is the link on the site of the Qnap
    http://www.qnap.com/pro_detail_feature.asp?p_id=136
And 'course, I repeat we are interested in right and also spend the QNAP is not on this line of reasoning!
If instead you're going to try out the various linux distros to get something like (the QNAP so much more obvious' the Giganas) using the previous generation notebook (which I still do! Giganas particularly attached to the webserver to make !) you need only ask! Obviously I prefer Linux and its various distros (even if I can help you with Winblows because I use it at work!) There is no just ask!
    Greetings Nando

I recently purchased this NAS. I equipped with 2 500GB RAID 1 and I turned and I've configured with static IP. But I have a problem of visibility on the network. Every 15-20 minutes the NAS disappears from the network and is therefore more accessible for a few minutes (whether it is statically mapped, which is accessed through exploration of the network). Then magically reappears. Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Solutions?
    Thank you.

  25. . Nex. December 15, 2009 12:36 pm

I forgot: I've always had the problem, both before and after the firmware update to the latest version.
    Thanks

  26. Pine December 15, 2009 24:40 pm

    Hello,
I'm sorry but I have this problem.
Are you sure the problem is not on your router?

  27. . Nex. December 16, 2009 10:49 am

I can not be certain but I have another NAS (LaCie) configured in a similar way and it works perfectly for years. In any case I do another test.

  28. . Nex. January 27, 2010 10:44 am

I tried with some alternative configurations on the network settings, but I did not get any results. I then asked for assistance by sending an email to the seller from whom I bought him that inspired me to reset it. Now try this route and see how it goes.
    Let me know.

  30. Piero March 8, 2010 11:32 pm

Guys, I have a SINGLE BAY NAS 35HD-NAS-E (single-disc version of the MRT COMMUNICATION), almost everything is fine with me, except for the Print Server from a certain point in time does not have wanted to know more me to use my printer through it. When I plug in my saw, but when attempting to run the prints ... Campa horse, that the grass is growing! But tonight I discovered something: there are two prints in the queue, since July 2009, and I can not in any way to eliminate them. Perhaps the problem lies there. Can you help me, please? How do I clear the print queue on the NAS? In its menu, there is nothing that serves to this. And then, where do I find updated firmware? When updating the firmware in case I have to worry about losing all data on your hard drive? Many thanks to those who can give me a hand ...

  31. Pino March 8, 2010 11:52 pm

    @ Piero
Stupid question, but have you tried turning it off right? ; D
