Stanford University has decided to enter the world of photography with a minor revolution: an open source camera.
The idea is to create a platform where anybody can expand the functionality by simply modifying the firmware or downloading updates from the network as already happens for systems like the iPhone.
They are currently working with a system that uses Linux, a motherboard texas instruments, photographic form of a Nokia N95 and Canon lenses.
The goal is to use sensors similar to those of current SLR and offer them at a price under $ 1000. For students and researchers from these cameras will be sold at cost price.
You can go into that here .
