Ubuntu: continuous evolution or involution?

With the upcoming release of Ubuntu known, now arrived at version 8.10, it starts the "usual" dance of the impressions of who swear it's all beautiful to those who really judge things in a more cold and detached.

EeePC and Mandriva 2009: no upgrade but install!

Finally I managed to get a stable installation and running! How did I do? Simple, installing everything from scratch. I know that after spending time, desire and patience to set things up, to start from scratch just is not the greatest, but it is so, otherwise the total instability of the system.

NEWS: Mandriva 2009 is out!

Mandriva 2009!

Mandriva 2009!

It 's official, was released the latest version of the Mandriva distribution.
This version promises better compatibility with netbooks, and since the 2008 version was already fully compatible with the eeepc ... I'm just curious to know what are the improvements!
The site reads:
New and Updated Software
Faster boot in
compatible with netbook
Improved the Mandriva tools

I believe that the transition is required

For holders of eeepc, I recommend not to upgrade, it is better to first see if there is a full hardware compatibility, or you risk having to recompile anything!

Soon I will write a simple tutorial on how to upgrade my impressions.

More vitamin all'eeepc! The overclocked and underclocked!

The title seems to be written by a person with dual personality!
But as more vitamin and overclocking, and that's fine, but then I talk about underclocked?
Yes, although it seems a contradiction in fact make sense either.
The eeepc is on average well to do everything you need, but sometimes it seems slow, it lacks that touch of panache that could solve some unforeseen situation ... it comes with skype, browsing, while referring to a document ... well poor CPU may not be reactive, and then switch to a higher clock can help.
Or are they on the plane, and I want to enjoy a good movie, and here the power is not needed, it is indeed too well but the battery is known, is never enough and then you go down the clock to save some power.
At this point the question arises: how?

Eeepc 701 and Mandriva - Installation

Mandriva 2008.1

In a previous post I told you of my travels to different Linux distributions, one for all the eeeXubuntu, to use Mandriva on my EeePC.
In this post however, I will explain step by step how you can install the latest version of Mandriva.

Requirements:
1 eeepc 701
1 PC with Linux already installed
1 usb or sd 512MB schda
1 ADSL
The installation that I followed is via FTP, in practice it creates a flash / sd with the minimum starting and answering simple questions (which would also be installing a cd) download the package via ftp and then the next install.

Eee PC 701: a faithful companion of adventures!

Eeepc 701

Eeepc 701

For about a year I own an Asus Eee PC 701, a mini notebook, laptop or whatever you want to define ...
Many complain that the keyboard is too small, or the monitor is tiny 7-inch, I will I complain about the fact that no matter how small, has a 7-inch form factor, totally!
As far as I'm concerned the real strength is portability and lightness, while many think that these networked computers are an inexpensive version of the portable 15-inch and then they want all their features, but only a characteristic of this category portable, low price!
