Also in the endless quest for final distribution to install on my eeepc 701 I was trying to figure out if the steps I did to install mandriva 2008 and 2009 could also be applied to other distributions. have a key at startup, starts the distribution and then download the packages from the network is much more convenient than downloading the iso, create a key that contains and is "bootable" to do the install on those PCs that are not equipped with a CD and find that, of course, the idea has already been developed and expanded!
This program is called UNetbootin , and allows you to create Live USB systems. It can also be used to perform an installation without burning a CD, but only using a USB flash drive.
Unetbootin is available for both Windows and Linux and is extremely easy to use:
You download the program, you choose your favorite distribution, you choose whether to create a key with the ISO, or simply a network installation, then you will start the process of creating the key with the desired options. A disarming ease!

The distributions are supported:

Unfortunately install from sd is much more complicated. Since the ssd of my baby is quite sensitive would be better able to try the distro to sd for ten days before having to reconfigure everything again ogi (firefox, favorites, services and network pw etc)
I am wonderfully with http://www.eeebuntu.org/ but tastes. Anyway unabootin to function like any distro of Ubuntu
Have fun
ps: I would strongly advise against puppy, despite its size it is a torment to the wifi networks
I'm trying ubuntu remix and now I feel good ... Now I look at the eeebuntu
For Puppy, I have never tried, but I know that sooner or later a ride I do.
However, the disc is not so dell'eeepc 'delicate as you think, indeed!
Excuse me if I wanted to install mandriva I have to find the image of the live-cd? second you can get a 2GB stick?
thanks
You??
of let's you!

However, a key for mandriva just 64MB!
See here how:
http://www.owoelwo.info/eeepc-e-mandriva-2009-no-upgrade-ma-install/
you re in this article is to install the 2008 version:

Obviously so 'doing will need to have available Internet for all the time, since you download the packages as they are installed.
